The High Flier and Other Stories is a collection of twelve exciting short stories from across Africa. These short stories focus on pertinent issues that touch on social, economic and political aspects of life such as the place of the African girl child, personal relationships in a changing cultural universe, female exploitation and choice, interracial relationships, HIV and AIDS, political disillusionment and betrayal, prison life, disability, among others.

A mysterious man goes to a village called Iping, and checks into an inn that is owned and run by Mr. and Mrs. Hall. The man’s name is Griffin, a scientist,
who spends his time in his room experimenting with different chemicals and formulas.
Griffin keeps himself completely bandaged up and wears a fake nose.
The villagers of Iping think that he is very peculiar, especially because suddenly weird break-ins and robberies start happening in the village. Follow this thrilling story to find out how things unfold.

This story revolves around a talented blacksmith who was ordered by the king to make a man of iron and if he could not do it, then he would be killed. The frustrated blacksmith tried to think of ways he could do it but in vain. When he had despaired, his wise wife gave him an idea that could save his life. He was asked to demand some special things from the king: hair from all the kings subjects and a hundred pots of tears that could be used to make a special kind of fire which could then be used to make a living man from iron. The king tried to look for these things but his people could not produce the required amount of tears! He had to call off the assignment. The life of the talented blacksmith was spared. The wise wife had done all these.
